Fremont’s De Afghanan restaurants bring Afghan food and culture to the Bay Area

Fremont’s De Afghanan restaurants bring Afghan food and culture to the Bay Area

Fremont’s Delight: De Afghanan Cuisine and De Afghanan Kabob House

When one speaks of iconic eateries in Fremont, the names De Afghanan Cuisine and De Afghanan Kabob House inevitably arise. Revered for their sumptuous dishes like beef kebabs, Bolani Kachaloo, and the crowd-favorite Qabili Pallow, these restaurants have carved a niche in the hearts of food enthusiasts.

The brainchild of Aziz Omar and his close-knit family, these establishments aren’t just about food; they celebrate Afghan culture and traditions. Omar’s mission is clear: to share the rich tapestry of Afghanistan’s culinary arts with the Bay Area.

Nestled in Fremont’s vibrant “Little Kabul” community recognized for hosting the most significant Afghan-American gathering in the U.S., both restaurants stand as pillars of authentic Afghan flavors.

Omar’s journey to the culinary world is one of passion and perseverance. After migrating to the States in the 1980s, Omar began his gastronomic adventure in New York. Later, lured by familial ties, he relocated to California with dreams of introducing Afghan delights to a broader audience. Reflecting on his journey, Omar remarks, “It’s not just about food; it’s about the joy a delicious meal brings to people.”

1993 witnessed the birth of De Afghanan Kabob House – a modest takeaway corner that soon saw patrons swarming in. Witnessing the love and demand for his creations, Omar inaugurated De Afghanan Cuisine, where patrons could sit, relax, and soak in an ambiance reminiscent of Afghanistan.

With time, the Omar family expanded their culinary empire, establishing five Afghan restaurants across the Bay Area. Their consistent quality and authenticity attracted locals and gastronomes from across the globe.

Long-time fan Calvin Aziz shares, “It’s been a tradition! When in Northern California, De Afghanistan is a must-visit.” Mustafa Aziz, a loyal patron for over two decades, chimes in with, “The Qabili Pallow here is unparalleled. I’ve waited for an hour to savor it.”

For Omar, it’s not just a business venture; it’s about the smiles of satisfied customers. “Our success is rooted in our quality and how we value each guest, treating them as family,” Omar beams.

For those eager to experience these culinary wonders, visit them at 37395 Fremont Blvd. Fremont, CA 94536. They open their doors from Tuesday to Sunday, 11:30 am – 3:30 pm, and then from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Your taste buds will thank you!
